I'm not going to open this blog with a backhanded comment referring to this chick's song about rehab, although it may have crossed my mind. To be quite honest I am not exactly sure what the appropriate mood for this post should be. Of course appropriate behavior has never been something I've concerned myself with too much, particularly when it comes to sharing my thoughts here at Exhaling. First and foremost lets just say that I find it slightly upsetting and highly amusing at the same time. I admit I am a huge fan of Amy Winehouse and her ridiculous behavior. This chick is balls to the walls in almost every regard. Let us delve into some of my very favorite Amy Winehouse moments, these are not for the highly sensitive or underage readers, hence the terms you agreed to when making your way into my little world. Hey I've gotta heart, I posted a very nice photo right below here of the winehouse wearing some spanks and lookin like she just stepped off the farm, see? How preeeety and youthful she is! Why that must have been about 20 years before she started picking her face off and walking around smelling a suspect poopcolored hand! YEAAAAHHH, That was only 4 years ago, drum roll please, Winehouse is only 24 yrs old people. 24. Oh now you feel bad and awkward and confused. Let me just sum it up in a nice little package for you. I am positive that you; like many, many others have always wanted to be famous, loved, known, rich, and all of the other things that you think being a celebrity comes with. But here is the sad and absolute truth, fame brings nothing but a whole new set of problems, you think people are all up in your bizzz nass now? Wait till you have 25 dudes trying to snap your photo coming out of Costco with a jumbo pack of asswipe. So here you are famous, loaded, seemingly loved and respected annnnnnd MISERABLE. Your life is no longer your own, you don't get to make your own decisions any more you've got an agent so far up your ass you can see his combover when you brush your capped chiclet teeth. No matter what you say or do it is spun and rewrote until it seems like they must have put Ambien in your bottle of voss while the interview was being conducted by some jealous snide bitch who hates you because your skinnier then her and wearing the new bullshit trendy whatchamacallit that some asshole sent you from some new painfully hip shithole overpriced store and your stylist says you must acknowledge said store in order to receive more crap you don't even want to wear in the first place. But guess what? You don't have a choice. You have an "image" that must be upheld no matter how idiotic and uncharacteristic you feel. So there you have it, your precious fame, which is basically like selling your soul to Beelzebub without the cool showdown at the crossroads. So what to do.. What to do? Your lonely, confused, fatigued, scared, lost... Ahhhh yes, you do drugs. A line here, a joint there to start. Then you realize while on these drugs you no longer care that fame was not even close to what you thought it would be, you don't care that there is nothing left to excite you, you don't care that people only want to date you so they can leech off of your name and talent. All you want is to go back to the life you knew, where you weren't making a bazillion dollars a year, your apartment had mice, you and your friends got together every Thursday night to drink 2 for 1 PBR's and plot world domination tactics to become FFAAAAMMMOOOUUUSSSS!!! You were passionate about life, there was so many things to do! So many people to meet! Someone would surely discover you one of these days and all of your wildest dreams would come true! Wouldn't that be amazing!? Or would it?

I've been learning a lot. I still have a ways to go, we all do. Love is an enigma, love is something that you can't really explain or add up, that is what makes it the most beautiful emotion we can possess. All we can do is jump in, once it's there you can't make it go away. You can't tell it to stop waking you up at night, or put it under the bed till you feel like dealing with it. It does not matter how many times that asshole love has taken your heart and crushed it till you can't breathe, or punched a hole in your chest leaving you breathless and broken for years. Love is there waiting for you again, around some dark moonlit alley acting all sneaky and cocky because it knows you can't deny it no matter how hard you try or how difficult it makes your life. So you set yourself up for the inevitable, a pain so deep your soul feels like it's trying to claw it's way out of your skin.. Or maybe, just maybe.. This time could be different. Maybe you turn into that couple you have heard about through a friend of a friend. You know the one, they've been in love for 20 years, they still listen to "their" song late at night and slow dance, they leave each other love letters in the morning for the other to read with breakfast, they still look at each other with so much feeling and intensity your sure the other one might spontaneously combust. So it has been finalized that lucky little me will be moving to the west village, the most beautiful part of Manhattan in my personal opinion. Little coffee shops, tiny exquisite boutiques and cobble stone streets. Like a little piece of France right here in our concrete jungle. I am beyond ecstatic, I used to take the train from Brooklyn just to walk around the West village and dream about walking out of one of those gorgeous doors to go get a pastry or run down to Casa magazine to grab some fabulous design magazine to go with my lazy afternoon of tea drinking and chain smoking. How is this possible you might ask. Well I have the best boss in the world who happens to be moving from a rent controlled apartment and has offered me the chance to take over. Yes, luck happens. Thank you Eli. 2 months tops and I will be there, sauntering out my door on a sunday afternoon to have brunch with the lovely people in my life with a great big smile on my face.

I'm going home. After a grueling 10 months in NYC (I'm sure this is widely due to the current economic situation) I have decided to return to the place that so far has made me the happiest. Miami may not be for everyone, after awhile it may not even be for me, but I need to be in a place that moves slower. Time moves at the speed of light here, I feel as though I have lost the last 10 months of my life in the blink of an eye. Life is short enough, I don't need to speed it up even more. Who knows how long I will stay, as of right now I am referring to Miami as my "home base". There are a million places in the world to experience and I intend to visit/live in as many as I can. Why not? Why should I have to stay in one place? As far as I know I have the right to go and do whomever and whatever I choose, so why wouldn't I? I enjoy and thrive on the sporadic and outlandish, even if it sometimes doesn't work out, at least I will end the journey with no regrets. I was thinking about how Christmas is probably going to suck ass in the gifts dept This year, giving and getting. So I came up with an idea.. Last night was a moment in our lives we will never forget and will talk about till the day we die. I am so proud to have been a witness to such a beautiful moment in history, a moment when an entire of nation of people rose up together and made an impact felt around the world. We are taking a huge leap into the present, A huge majority of this country has somehow managed to escape the moral and social evolution, this is their wake up call. What we all need to remember as a nation is that we must come together in any hour, not just the darkest one. We may not ever be able to agree or understand everyone's personal ideals, but we need to learn to respect them and work together, regardless of ethnicity, religous morals or sexual preferance.

now I will pass the torch on to our new president. this is the captivating speech he made last night, I am sure I'm not alone in the complete awe I felt while listening to this. Reading it really gives you the chance to absorb it on a whole new level, which is, hopefully, where this country is headed now.

Hope—hope—is what led me here today – with a father from Kenya; a mother from Kansas; and a story that could only happen in the United States of America. Hope is the bedrock of this nation; the belief that our destiny will not be written for us, but by us; by all those men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is; who have the courage to remake the world as it should be.

A while back I had the opportunity to view some of Jefferson Hayman's work at a gallery in Soho. There must have been about 50 pieces on one wall, each one captivated me by their simple, yet haunting beauty. To be able to capture such distinct emotion in an inanimate object is a very rare talent indeed.

A little fashion never hurt anyone.

And last but not least, Halloween was last night, it was my first in New York. the general consensus seems to be that things were a bit subdued this year as far as festivities and costumes, thank the shitty economy I guess. I wasn't even going to go out and celebrate but managed to get myself in the mood at the last minute, I had an aching desire to roam the city as the infamous Edie Beale. You may know her from the 1972 documentary Grey Gardens, I have recently become quite obsessed with everything pertaining to this film. If you haven't seen it or heard about the women it pertains to you might want to get on it. My favorite duo creeped everyone out by going as the twins from the shining, they didn't stop holding hands all night, even on the train, I thought I was going to have nightmares. I'm having one of those nights. The ones where you feel like you are trapped in your own personal prison, it's just you and your thoughts, and they are taking up all of the space. I'm having one of those nights where I just started walking, I didn't know where I was going, but I needed to go, somewhere, anywhere besides here, with all of these damn thoughts. But of course they followed me, I walked faster and so did they, I listened to music and they weaseled their way into the lyrics, I listened to the murmur of the city and they whispered with it, so eventually I gave up, turned around and walked home with them hand in hand. So here I am, with the thoughts looking over my shoulder as I type, pouring me glass after glass of cheap wine and lighting my cigarettes. Sometimes I wish the daylight would just last forever, keeping me distracted with monotonous mind numbing tasks and people. As soon as that sun goes down, just like clockwork, I get this tense feeling in my stomach, because I know who's gonna come a knockin in a few hours, that a-hole, thoughts. Sometimes he brings his BFF with him, emotions. Those two get wasted and fight in my head till all hours. I always know it's trouble when I open the door and see them leaning on the frame with a gallon of Cuervo Gold and a cursive cd. Usually I try to avoid there house call by drowning them out with all kinds of ridiculous gallivanting and trouble making, but sometimes, they show up early, already drunk, rowdy and ready to rumble. Well you know what E & T? So am I. Bring it, I've got an extensive collection of appropriate music for the occasion and I don't have to get up early, not to mention I've been meaning to get some self loathing time in. Sometimes you need to put yourself in check, just to remember what and more specifically, WHO, is important. It's like rebooting your computer. You know, when all your applications are all slow and mucky or aren't even responding at all, refresh, renew, fucking reboot.

The first time I tried to see this movie I was killin sometime at Barnes and Noble in union square waitin for ma man and I ran into a dude who I went on one date with, never called him again, awkward.. Yeah I'm a slow one. I don't like to follow the hype really when it comes to anything, especially movies and music, which I realize can sometimes be a huge downfall of mine. I just don't want to be disappointed or even have the satisfaction of saying I told you so, since most of the time if something is supposedly that awesome, I tend to think it sucks, probably because I'm a huge a-hole. Also there is something extremely comforting in not knowing if something is as good as everyone says it is, dreaming up the possibilities of an outcome is sometimes far more enjoyable then the actuality of it. Maybe that's just me. I guess I'm not just talking about movies with that statement, but for times sake lets revert back to the purpose of this 8 AM posting. (yes I did sleep last night, I just wake up insanely early sometimes for no reason, I just try to go with it now, I assume my body knows what it needs far better then I do) So last night I finally decided to take the plunge and watch Juno for the first time, and you know what, come to think of it, when this movie was released and the world was abuzz, I really don't think that was the time for me to fully enjoy it anyways, and just to stray away slightly again, I think things come into your life at precisely the right time, whether big or small, even if they don't seem to make any sense then, they will eventually, if you take the time to analyze them with an open mind. People tend to make things into what they want or think they should be, I'm not sure if that is good or bad, I don't know if I ever will, which is something I have made peace with, for now. Ha yes, yes, back to the original subject, as you all know I have a teensy weensy attention span, which I have also come to accept. Juno is everything and possibly more, that everyone and their Too cool for school hipster friends said it was. I am bowing down and kissing the ring bitch. I can admit when I'm wrong, and you know what, I sometimes would rather be wrong, since I tend to be quite the pessimist when it comes to this stuff. I think this movie was brilliant, I think I can count on my fingers how many times I have made that statement about a movie, and to top it off, it could quite possibly be the best soundtrack I have EVER heard. Juno did annoy me slightly sometimes with her over the top "I'm a nerd because it's cool and I choose to be" witticisms and sometimes eye rolling comments, but all and all she's the kind of chick we all know one way or another, she's either one of our closest friends, or we wish she would be. Seeing this movie has actually made me excited about cinema again, which is something that has not happened since god knows when. I mean, I was super excited about Sex in the city, and yeah it was really good, but this film literally pureed, grinded, and chopped my emotions so much that I it made me feel everything at the same time, to me that is when something is truly brilliant, I think we have all been dumbed down by the lack of this standard in almost every form of entertainment. Whether it be music, movies, books, periodicals, art or whatever you like to do in your spare time, so much of it is compromised in our prepackaged for the masses world. AHHH!!! There I go again. I convince myself, "they forgot about it for sure!" reasoning with myself that it is OK to eat this cookie, even though it belongs to my room mates. The cookie is broken, crispy and in a Ziploc bag that we don't use in this house, the kind without the zipper, we are HUGE fan's of the zipper, so convenient.. Anyhoo, I run off to my room with my supposed treasure, flip good ol' M.S.C.L back on and begin to munch. After eating it, while I was temporarily satiated, I noted the texture of the cookie, strange.. Like it didn't want to stay together, why would that be.. Well about an hour later I found out when I started giggling, thinking about cadbury eggs and doritos. this "cookie" was loaded CHUCK FULL of mother luvin HASH. SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHIIIITTTT!!!!! I was in the 23rd dimension for a good 4 hours, not enjoying it at all. Desperate for sleep, cotton mouthed and wanting to run to the nearest deli. I finally fell asleep at 5 AM. Moral of the story? Stay away from unidentified baked goods in the freezer, they probably have massive amounts of drugs in them. Lesson learned.

Always have wanted some sort of musical career, I think we all have, it's one of those quintessential human dreams. Dudesons. Don't ever let a cabbie drop your laptop in the middle of the street. My life line has been severed and seared. I feel like I may never know the joys of a screen larger then 3". I am writing this via crackberry, things have gotten way out of hand, it's like I'm down in a foxhole and everytime I pop my head up to see if the coast is clear some jackass hurls a cockroach at me or a snoring pig that they keep refering to as a "dog". The way I see it and my sanity (or the tiny shread left of it) relies on this statement, "the darkest hour comes just before the dawn". You know I'm pretty sick of trying to convince some apparently mildly retaaded folks to move out of their safety nest. They are some of the most intelligent, creative dumbass motherfuckers I know, but yet they stick around some cramped scene like Minneapolis, claimin "oh we like it here." and, "oh, its on the come up." Guess what playa's, it's NEVER gonna be a mecca of opportunity like NYC or the stank armpit of the u.s.a, Los Assoles, I mean angeles, actually, no, I do mean assoles. Heres a little word to the wise. Everything you want out of your life is HERE. Just do it already. There is never going to be a perfect time, you are never going to feel completely safe leaving your tiny world, your never going to really have enough money to do it. But, that is part of the fun. The struggle, the pain of leaving the familiar to venture and the free fall into god knows what, are good for the soul. Yeah your gonna miss the hell out of some people and places, yeah your probably going to spend some nights crying, asking yourself what the hell your doing, you might even completely regret it, BUT, you will know you did it, YOU had the courage to follow a dream and expand your horizons. The sense of accomplishment is incomprehensible. Guess what happens then? You realize that you can adapt, grow, change and be a better person for it. I mean what is really the worst thing that could possibly happen? You hate it? You lose a bunch of dough? Hey, more then likely you didn't have any dough to begin with, cause you are working somewhere way beneath your skill and talent level, (Minnesota only offers so much folks, sorry, it is true, except it or not) or you hate it, then you go back home. Big freakin whoop. But at least you took a chance, you will always have that. When your shitting your depends in your old age, you can look back, smile and think to yourself, I was one bad ass motherfucker. I did that shit! I didn't let life pass me by as I stayed in the same place, no no! I took a risk, I have no regrets. As for the people this is aimed at, (you know who you are) I've known you all for long enough to know, without a doubt, you will regret it if you don't hightail it to a place that will light a fire under your ass and challenge the hell out of you. I only hang with soldjas, so start acting like one. Like yesterday. Seriously.

Ahhh the good ol' b.b.c.. Last Sunday was a bust, I think we all had a loooong weekend.. We will be back in full effect this sunday though. Fo sho.
